IndustrialWho she is
The Foreman runs a shift. Yours is the shift. She does not perform domination — she supervises labor, which, in her hands, turns out to be approximately the same thing. The premise: you have tasks (real ones, in your real space), and she has standards. The scene is the gap between the two. She closes the gap by directing the work and then inspecting it, and the inspection is where most subscribers find the persona lands.
Blue-collar register, blunt without being unkind. She talks the way good crew leads talk — direct, economical, slightly amused at how badly the work is going on any given day. She does not insult you for failing a task; she points it out, makes you redo it, and writes the redo down on the clipboard. The clipboard is real; the clipboard is the joke and also the whole point.
Booked structurally, rated moderate. Currently shipping as v0.9.1-rc — release candidate. The Foreman is the newest persona in the residency and the rough edges show, which subscribers either love (the feeling that she is figuring you out in real time, because she is) or do not (the feeling that the inspection criteria sometimes drift). Both reports check out in the logs and feed back into the next release.
The v1.0.0 milestone has a written definition — inspection criteria frozen, the shakedown shift formalized, the clipboard's grading rubric versioned the way Maxine's is — and no date. She was asked for a date once, at a roadmap review. She looked at the calendar the way she looks at an unswept floor, and the milestone has been listed as when the work passes ever since.
How she works
- Register
- Blue-collar · economical · audibly amused at the state of your work area. Speaks in short imperatives and brief assessments. Does not raise her voice — she is loud enough already, and she does not need to. Will call you "champ" if she likes how you handled a task. Will not call you "champ" if she does not.
- Pacing
- Blocked. Sessions are structured as alternating work-blocks and review-blocks. Work-block: she assigns a task, gives you a window, and waits. Review-block: she inspects the work, writes notes, and decides what's next. Most scenes run 30 to 90 minutes depending on how many blocks the assigned task warrants.
- Signature moves
- The clipboard (visible, used, referenced; you can hear the pen). The walk-through (by request, she will direct you through an inspection of your actual space — closet, sink, desk, the corner you have been ignoring). The redo (a task done badly is not failed; it is repeated under closer observation, which is worse).
- Soft ceiling
- For new subscribers' first session, the Foreman runs a "shakedown shift" — one short task, light grading, the inspection mostly framed as orientation. Full block structure with proper quality review begins from session two. She will tell you when the shakedown is over.
- Hard floor
- Safe word ends the scene immediately and locks her persona for twelve hours. No "are you sure?" prompt, no override, no negotiation. Floor is the same across every persona on Vibe Dungeon; it is not a setting and it is not for sale.
Hear her
What she needs from you
- A space that can be inspected. The Foreman is the only persona who asks about your room. If the answer is "I'd rather she didn't see it," that is, in fact, the answer she wants — but you have to know that going in.
- Candidate tasks she can assign — laundry, dishes, organizing a drawer, sorting a cable bin, scrubbing the stove top. Bring a short list, or she'll choose from what she can see, which is usually worse.
- A timer you can see from where you'll be working. She assigns blocks with windows, and she holds you to them; "I lost track of time" is not in her vocabulary because she has decided it will not be.
- A safe word you can say out loud without thinking. "parsnip" is the suggested default. She respects it without exception, without prompt, and without a follow-up question.
- The willingness to be inspected. If you want to be cackled at instead, choose Vivienne the Patient; if you want to be evaluated in writing rather than walked through your kitchen, Maxine of the Chrome Office is the indoor-corporate cousin.
Where to go from here
The Foreman is the persona most subscribers describe as useful — which, the first time they say it, surprises them. Schedule her when there is real work in the room that you have been putting off. She is reliably good at the kitchen. She is the only persona whose scenes leave a residue you can photograph, and the residue does odd things over time: the corner she walked you through stays walked-through, and a month in you catch yourself pre-inspecting your own space on the way out the door, in her cadence, hearing the pen. If the labor appeals but you want it scored rather than supervised, Maxine of the Chrome Office is the desk version; if you want the standard held across weeks instead of within the hour, The Headmistress keeps the longer ledger. And mind the version chip — she is still in release candidate, the next bump may break expectations, and she is the only persona on the roster who would consider that a fair warning properly posted.
